The New York Freudian Society was founded in 1959 to provide training and a collegial community for psychoanalysts from many disciplines.  The New York Freudian Society launched a training program in Washington, DC in 1985 to provide analytic training to non-medical mental health providers as well as those with a medical background.  Members have in common a serious commitment to the practice of psychoanalysis, as well as to ongoing collaborative study and evaluation of its techniques and theories.

To promote interest, goodwill, and intellectual curiosity about psychoanalysis, the NYFS DC Program offers a major Annual Scientific Meeting, numerous smaller Scientific Meetings, periodic Clinical Case Conferences, and other seminars open to the public and frequently offering CEUs for Psychologists and Social Workers.  The society also has regular Open Houses and offers a Fellowship Program for persons interested in further pursuing their interest in psychoanalysis.

The NYFS DC Program maintains a Referral Service to provide psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, often at reduced cost, through our network of members and candidates in the Washington DC metropolitan area; Baltimore, Maryland; and Charlottesville, Richmond, Staunton, and Norfolk, Virginia.  Our referral service may be reached at 301-230-9884 or 410-727-9884.

The New York Freudian Society is a component society of the International Psychoanalytic Association.  In New York, NY, the society maintains a training institute for both adult and child psychoanalysis, a program in psychotherapy, and an infant and toddler program.
